Don’t Look Back

When the gun goes off, don’t look back. The finish line is in front of you. Keep your eyes up and your mind focused. As long as your head stays in the race, you have a shot. The moment you take your mind out of the race, is the moment you can lose it all.

To lay it all out, there is going to come a point in the race where you question yourself , ability, and heart. You have to believe in everything you have done. The person next to you may have ran faster times than you or more miles all season long. However, what matters most is what your mind is telling you. Your mind is more powerful than your legs. Therefore, it is up to you to work through all the rough patches which will inevitably pop up during your event.

Remind yourself why you are out there. It is because you work hard. You put in the time and effort. You deserve a chance just like everyone else on the starting line. Everyday is different. This could be your day. When the official calls you to the line, Smile, and make it a great smile. My mom always told me she knew I was going to have a great race when I was smiling on the starting line. I smiled because I was so blessed to be out there. I was given an opportunity to race, and that is exactly what I was going to do, RACE.

DSCF1072No matter what happens this weekend. As long as you are running for the pure joy of the sport and give all you have, you have already won! Just don’t look back,  Once you take the  first step, there is no going back, you can no longer change anything. You just have to go for it!

“Somewhere along the line you changed. You stopped being you. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you’re no good. And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame… like a big shadow. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit, it’s about how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. If you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits and not go pointing fingers, saying you ain’t what you wanted to be because of him, her or anybody, because that’s what cowards do!” – – Rocky

“Great moments are born from great opportunity. That’s what you have here, tonight, boys. That’s what you’ve earned here tonight. One game. If we played them ten times, they might win nine, but not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate. Tonight, we stay with them, and we shut them down, because we can! Tonight, WE are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players, every one of you. And you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done, it’s over. I’m sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw ’em. This is your time. Now go out there and take it!” -Herb Brooks
