Congratulations Andrew Gordon

This past weekend, Andrew Gordon, attended and  competed in the Missouri Class 3 State Championships. He was fortunate to be able to compete in 3 events. Andrew started off the weekend Friday afternoon with the 1600 meter run. Last year he placed 5th at sectional race by the tip of a nose and was unable to attend state in this event. He worked all year-long and finally earned his spot in the field. A great way to end his senior year with a Personal record of 4:28 and a 5th place finish at the 2013 State Championships.

The very next day, weather was quite intense all morning. I was afraid they were going to call off the races. Luckily the weather moved through quickly and the races were still in order. Andrew’s high school track team was able to compete in the 4×800 relay, Andrew was the 4th leg of the relay and ran his 800 meters in a time of 1:59.  Just a few hours later He turned around to race in the 3200 event. I have always thought this was his strongest event. While sitting at dinner with my husband on Friday night, I made a comment, that if Andrew played his cards right he could win. I was super anxious as I was awaiting his results. Moments later my phone lit up with a 2nd place finish by Andrew. He ran an amazing race, .08 seconds from claiming the title. However, I am still so excited Andrew also ran an amazing personal record of 9:39. Going into the race most spectators would notice he was only ranked 5th. Andrew knew what he could do, and he turned around and showed everyone he has what it takes.

A great end to a wonderful high school career. Today Andrew graduates high school and will be attending Southeast Missouri State University in the fall, where he will be running and taking his talents to accomplish more feats.

Good Luck and Congratulations Andrew on a job well done!!!!DSCF1477
